Mission Patch Competition
Submit your "Mission Patch" design for the chance to have it flown with the flight experiment!
We must have AT LEAST 100 people engaged in each community competition for our patches to fly! Tell your friends!
We are asking for our community members to design and select a "Mission Patch" to represent MTC's participation in SSEP M18 to the ISS! A physical copy of the selected patches WILL FLY TO THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION with the selected MTC experiment in Summer 2024.
The competition is open to TWO communities:
Midlands Technical College: Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to submit solo or collaborative works that represent the College and our participation in the SSEP program, or Mav in Space.
Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield K12: Students of any K12 institution or organization within these 3 counties are encouraged to submit their solo or collaborative work to represent YOUR community and the Midlands Tech Mav in Space initiative.
Open to any active MTC student, faculty, or staff.
Open to any active K12 student in these three counties
SSEP M18 Patch Design Requirements
The Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Mission 18 to ISS (International Space Station) will be providing Midlands Technical College a flight-certified research mini-laboratory capable of supporting a single student-designed microgravity experiment, and all launch services to fly the mini-lab to ISS for operation by the astronauts in late Spring 2024.
As part of the experiment package, we are going to be submitting two physical flight "patches" to fly to the International Space Station. One will be selected from the MTC campus community, and one will be selected from the K12 community within the MTC Service Area (Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield Counties).
There will be two separate elections for the MTC Student and K-12 Flight Patch winners. Flight-qualified versions of each of the patch designs will be sent along with the experiment on Mission 18.
You can view examples of prior flight patch designs by clicking here.
Here are the design requirements:
Design must be less than 3.5" x 3.5" in size to fly.
It must be deliverable on paper, not cardstock, cardboard or any heavy-weighted surface.
Design cannot include multiple layers of paper glued or taped on top of one another.
Design can be in black and white or full-color.
Design must professionally represent the community and not contain inappropriate material or references.
Design needs to be photographed or scanned at least 300dpi and in JPEG format (if produced physically for review).
The design can commemorate SSEP Mission 18, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing or the return mission for NASA's Artemis Program, but these are only suggestions not requirements.
The design should include factors that represent your community and/or the mission.
Designs must be submitted by: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1
Designs will be voted on digitally by each community group.
The Top 3 Designs from that vote will then be placed in a new election round. The winner of that election will be moved forward as a Patch Design entry.
The winner's original physical artwork will be collected and sent to the SSEP.
